Your Opportunity

The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer in the Virtualization group is responsible for the implementation and ongoing 7x24 support of the computer infrastructure services and to ensure high availability, redundancy, recoverability, and capacity. This includes operating systems and systems hardware as well as virtualization. This position requires a multi-team, cross-functional approach to meeting business needs. The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer works closely with the other groups within the business - networking, data center, storage, security and architecture and is expected to have, maintain, and develop knowledge in multiple technical areas in order to collaborate and provide support to the engineering and application development groups. This position is a key contributor and enabler to the business information systems.

 

Opportunities include working on on-premise cloud platforms and emerging technologies in coordination with executive and architectural teams.

This remote position is U.S.-based only (excluding U.S. territories)

What You'll Do

 

1. Customer Interaction:

      o Provide day to day support for the virtualization infrastructure (OpenStack/VMWare/Linux engineering); emphasis on the platform and hypervisors, not the guests/instances/apps

      o Work with the operations/devops and application development groups to ensure that they have the resources required to support the application environments

      o Work with other infrastructure teams to manage capacity, availability, and enhance integration points and workflows

2. Technical Expertise:

      o Participate in the design, planning, and implementation of new projects/technologies and ensuring that the solutions are highly available and performant

      o Work with the architecture group to develop and document standards and procedures

      o Work with vendors to resolve issues and manage new technologies and proposals

      o Participate in the evaluation, deployment, and management of new technologies in alignment with other engineers, architects, and business initiatives

      o Develop and maintain automation for most facets of infrastructure; hypervisor builds, reporting, misc. utilities, etc.

3. Problem Resolution:

     o Drive issue resolution to completion including a root cause analysis report

     o Communicates with and seeks solutions from IT vendors/external relationships which the business partners with

4. Internal Support (New Responsibilities):

     o Ensure that all supported environments are monitored to provide alerts when there are problems (including performance); when problems arrive, root cause analysis is completed

     o Ensure that all supported environments are fully documented, including procedures for their use and management; examples of documentation are project plans, business continuance, installation procedures, troubleshooting tips, system diagrams and topology

About You

 

· Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science or Information Technology preferred) or 4 years equivalent experience

· Position is responsible for supporting 7x24 on-call

· Experience configuring and managing Linux systems, 10 years

· Experience with troubleshooting Windows systems, 3 years

· Experience with OpenStack (preferred) and VMWare virtualization, 5 years

· Experience with scripting and programming languages and related tooling (Python, Ansible, Bash, Kickstart/Cobbler, PowerShell), 3 years

· Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts and common CI/CD workflows (Git, Jenkins), 3 years

· Experience with operating system security (best practices for installation, configuration, patching, etc.), 5 years

· Experience with Network Attached Storage - NAS (NetApp preferred), 3 years

· Experience with managing and configuring systems on TCP/IP networks and an understanding of network concepts, protocols, and tools/applications (e.g., Wireshark), 5 years

· TCP/IP protocols: TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP, and understanding of wider set protocols, 5 years

· Operational experience supporting enterprise class systems in a 24x7 high availability environment, 5 years

· Strong understanding of high availability concepts with practical experience and implementation of key components (databases, application servers, fault tolerant systems, cluster server/software, etc.), 3 years

· Experience with load balancing (F5/Avi preferred), 3 years

· Experience with containerization (docker, docker-compose)

· Experience with relational databases and associated core concepts

· Good understanding of performance monitoring and management

· Experience with the setup and management of monitoring tools (Zabbix/AppDynamics preferred)

· Experience with managing public cloud environments (AWS preferred)

· Experience working in a structured change control and configuration management environment

· Knowledge of and experience working in Agile framework using Scrum/Kanban

· Knowledge of SDLC methodologies and standards and how they contribute to related infrastructure

· Experience building and administering Cisco UCS Servers

Pay Range

USD $94,730.00 - USD $135,325.00 /Yr.
